Our Story

After receiving a masters degree in music therapy and mental health counseling, Steve Gintz, MT-BC, MA, CDP, began his career working as a counselor for teen girls in 2015 — until a colleague asked him to cover her groups at a senior living community.

Each group reinforced what Steve already knew — the power of music and the arts to nourish mind, body, and spirit. The energy among group participants was palpable, and reactions from staff and visiting family members proved he’d found his life’s work.

In 2018, Steve left his counseling position — and faced his fear of cold calling — to start Instrumental Health™.

Now, more than 3,000 groups and 70 communities later, Instrumental Health™ has grown into a team of expressive therapists and artists proudly and passionately furthering the mission of Instrumental Health™: enriching lives through creativity and connection.
